THE FRIDAY FIVE

A Change Is as Good as a Rest

By The Editors

This week we’ve got a few ideas to help brighten things up during the winter months.

Why not stare at something wonderful? Start with the background image on your computer or tablet screen. Click on over to National Geographic’s Best Wallpapers and pick out something gorgeous (or set things to shuffle and be inspired by the bunch). Too traditional? Search for “wallpaper” at www.behance.net. Warning: Check “Project Info” first for those use restrictions. Look out! Behance is addicting.

It looks good on i! Eschew the traditional and carry your iPad, Kindle or any other electronic device in an unusual handmade case. You can search by your own preferences at handmade giant Etsy or go straight to the merchants like Brokesy or Pad and Quill.

Wrap it up. Despite our dedication to becoming a paperless office (in theory), we remain addicted to paper for some things. Now you can organize your necessary papers in elegant, expressive and recyclable materials. Naked Binder offers unique non-PVC binders in your choice of understated or eye-popping colors. And you can get matching labels (some wrap entirely around the binder) that you print yourself. Not only great for organizing your desk, the package could help make a nice impression for your next client presentation.

Take yourself out for a good time. Thrillist now has apps for iPhone and Android that map the new, under-the-radar bars, restaurants and shops in your neighborhood. There are versions for 20 cities, pinpointing what’s tops and what’s close, with neighborhood maps that are easy to navigate. Unlike similar apps, Thrillist removes the clutter and shows only places it approves.

Get more of what you like.
