Resume Infographic Magic: Canva

By Merrilyn Astin Tarlton

So here’s a fun—and potentially very powerful—thing to do: Hop over to Canva.com and create a resume infographic for yourself. The result, I think you’ll agree, is high on the cool spectrum. Even better, it’s low on the difficulty scale.

Resume Infographic Magic Made Simple

In case you haven’t noticed, the world has become obsessed with infographics. Just in time, too, because our worlds have become so intricate they are nearly impossible to figure out without an image or two. It probably started with those brilliant graphics on the New York Times site. But now, we’ve become nearly addicted to getting our information and perspective in gorgeous pictures. If you’re on Facebook, you probably receive lots of links to infographics from friends who’ve fallen in love with the power of pictures and the powerful messages they convey.

It only follows that infographics have invaded the resume business. Remember when we used to fret about what kind of paper to use and whether to indent text or not? Now, most resumes are submitted instantly over the Internet, and instead of focusing on conforming to standards, applicants worry about how to be memorable at first click. Of course, graphic designers and web programmers are all over this graphical, interactive resume infographic trend.

Canva for example offers a nice resume infographic creator. It will literally knock your hat off in a matter of minutes. Try this:

To get started in creating your resume:

  1. Log on to Canva
  2. Sign in or Sign up for an account.
  3. Choose the Resume design option
  4. Start designing

If you don’t think that what shows up on your screen is the totally perfect infographic resume (although you have to admit it is impressive, regardless), just use the little control panel on the left of your screen to modify the information you want to show or hide, or change graphic themes, colors, fonts, and background.

This is so easy and fun, and the results are so impressive, you may just decide it’s time to look for a new job right now!
