Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us.

Here’s how we collect, process and store the information you share with Attorney at Work.

Collection and Use of User and Subscriber Details. When you register at Attorney at Work and subscribe to our educational newsletters, our opt-in signup forms ask for and collect personal information such as your name, email address, postal code, country, title, organization name/type, zip code, and firm size. We use Mailchimp to store this subscription information. (View MailChimp’s Privacy Policy and Terms here.)

We also collect personal information via Mailchimp when you register to download or receive ezines, checklists, white papers or guides produced by Attorney at Work or our sponsors. When you choose to receive a download or register for a webinar from a specific sponsor, we may ask permission to share your registration information with that sponsor. This information is collected in pop-up box forms or custom landing pages and will be clearly noted. (Most often, however, you will be directed to the advertiser’s website, subject to their privacy policy and terms and conditions, and your information will not be collected by Attorney at Work.)

We do not sell our subscriber list. We do not share or sell any of your personally identifiable information to third parties unless you have given permission for us to do so, as noted above.

Third-party apps. We also collect website usage information via third-party marketing software that helps us monitor and track activity on the website, including remarketing or retargeting services. This usage information does not contain any personal information about any user.

We collect this information so that we may provide the best information and service possible to users and sponsors. The analysis of site usage we provide to advertisers and sponsors will always be anonymous.

Cookies. When you opt-in to receive or download materials from Attorney at Work (such as ezines, checklists, white papers, or guides) our website leaves a cookie on your browser to ensure that you have unlimited access to all Attorney at Work downloads. If you clear your browser of cookies, your access to the downloads will disappear until you opt in again and another cookie is added to your browser. We use an amazon affiliate program in some of our content. Amazon may leave a cookie on your browser.

Product or Book purchases. Information collected when you purchase a product, book, or digital edition of a book is stored in our WordPress e-commerce plug-in database. We use Stripe or PayPal to process all payment information (https://stripe.com/us/privacy), (https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/ua/legalhub-full). Attorney at Work does not store or have access to the personal payment information or credit cards processed by Stripe or PayPal.

Transmitting your information overseas. We are a U.S.-based company. When we transmit a person’s personal information from overseas, we will only do so with your consent to the transmission or otherwise in accordance with the applicable privacy laws. Placing an order or subscribing to our emails that requires you to voluntarily provide us with your personal information is an expression of consent to your personal information being sent overseas as part of the transaction process.

Updating your information subscriber preferences. You may update your information and frequency preferences by clicking the “update preferences” link at the bottom of every email you receive from Attorney at Work. We will comply with such requests as permitted by law or contract. You may also request a copy of the personal information We have for You and information about how We are using it, and We will comply with such requests unless We are required or authorized by law to withhold such information. You may also email editor@attorneyatwork.com.

Under California Civil Code § 1798.83-1798.84, California residents may ask us for information about the categories of data we collected about them and shared with third parties for marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year and provide the contact information for those third parties. If you are a California resident who would like a copy of such information, please send us a written request to editor@attorneyatwork.com.

Removing your information. If you no longer wish to receive our emails, you can click “Unsubscribe”’ from an email or contact editor@attorneyatwork.com to be removed from our lists.

Security. We have internal policies and procedures designed to protect Your personal information, including protection from unauthorized use or disclosure. Attorney at Work is Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) and is using SHA-256 with RSA encryption. We continue to assess new technology as it becomes available and to upgrade Our physical and electronic security systems as appropriate. Additionally, Attorney at Work performs a self-assessment of our privacy practices and procedures at least annually. We delete personal information that is no longer necessary for Attorney at Work to have as a business entity or to provide you with our products and services.

Sharing your Information with others. We share personal information about you, as required or permitted by law, with third parties, such as service providers, who assist us in the day-to-day operations of Attorney at Work. We require third-party service providers to enter into confidentiality agreements that prohibit them from using any personal information they obtain for any other purpose other than those for which they were retained or as permitted by law.

We may share your information with a third party if we have a good-faith belief that sharing the information is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, or enforceable government request including court orders; to investigate potential violations or technical issues on our website; or to protect against harm to us, our users, or our affiliates’ rights, property, safety, or to the public as permitted by law. We must disclose your personal information in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.

For all other uses, we will seek your consent to use your personal information in a way that is not directly related to the reason that we collected it and we do not have relevant current permission from you unless so permitted by law.

Oversight. Attorney at Work is subject to the investigatory and enforcement power of the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) in the United States, which oversees acts or practices in or affecting commerce by any person, partnership, or corporation. Pursuant to the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), Attorney at Work adheres to the Privacy Shield Principles. We acknowledge that under the GDPR, we are liable in cases of onward transfers to third parties. Additionally, You may lodge a complaint with the appropriate supervisory authority at any time.

Modifications to our Privacy Policy. Attorney at Work reserves the right to amend this Privacy Policy from time to time, with or without advanced notice, and will post the latest version on our website in a timely manner. Such revisions shall be effective immediately upon posting. We recommend that You review this Privacy Policy periodically so that you are aware of any changes. Your continued participation on this site indicates your acceptance of this Privacy Policy and of the collection, use, disclosure, and management, and retention of Your personal information as described herein.
